With expertise in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and agricultural sectors, Dr Catherine Winbanks appointment is a testament to the rich talent pool at FPA Patent Attorneys.
Catherine’s practice involves the drafting, management and prosecution of patent portfolios for local and international biotechnology companies. She has worked with clients locally and internationally to develop extensive patent portfolios in the US, Europe, Japan, China and South East Asia. Catherine has also been involved in a number of opposition proceedings for large biotechnology companies in areas of complex technology.
Catherine joined FPA in June 2014 after completing her PhD and post-doctoral training, where she published more than 20 peer reviewed articles and reviews in journals including Science Translational Medicine, The Journal of Cell Biology, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science of the United States of America (PNAS) and The Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Catherine is a leading authority on gene-therapy based interventions in Australia and together with her expertise in gene editing and RNAi in a wide range of indications, she is well placed to assist clients in protecting innovation in these fields.
Catherine’s promotion to Senior Associate is an acknowledgement by the Principals of her contribution to the business, both internally and externally, particularly her direct client facing interactions and enthusiasm for business development.

The promotion of Catherine follows last year’s elevation of two attorneys to Senior Associate – Dr Emma van Embden and Jason Manakis.
