FPA Patent Attorneys is delighted to announce the promotion of Akanksha Dahiya to principal with effect from 1 July 2024.

“Akanksha’s promotion to Principal is a real milestone in the life of both FPA and the Physics and Engineering group,” says FPA’s Managing Principal, John Dower. “She will continue to provide invaluable support to a core area of the business, as well as embracing a substantial leadership role.”

Akanksha joined FPA in October 2015 after qualifying as a patent attorney (and winning the Institute Prize) in July that year.

She is a registered Trans-Tasman patent attorney specialising in electronics, telecommunications, and software. She possesses extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, particularly those pertaining to manufacturing automation, software, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing. As a highly skilled patent attorney, Akanksha is also adept at dealing with and successfully overcoming complex patentable subject matter rejections in the software domain. Her ICT and patent skills have also come to the fore in providing litigation support in a major highly technical patent dispute in Australia.

Akanksha is a great collaborator with high energy and drive, and has been a strong contributor to FPA for several years across many areas. During this time she has successfully mentored a number of our upcoming professionals. She also enjoys a physical challenge as a dedicated indoor and outdoor rock climber.

Akanksha was awarded the MIP Rising Star award in 2018-2019. In 2020-2023, she received MIP’s ‘notable practitioner’ award, joining an esteemed group of senior practitioners, including partners/principals.

Reflecting on her journey, Akanksha shared,

“As I step into my role as Principal, I want to still be known as the patent attorney that thrives on the thrill of understanding and mastering cutting-edge technologies, and for helping solve complex challenges – both for clients and internally. Building an unstoppable team of attorneys who are not just skilled but also excited about what they do is one of my ultimate goals.”
