FPA Patent Attorneys is delighted to announce the following promotions to Associate Principals effective 1 January 2025:

Elyse’s career has been defined by a passion for big ideas, beginning with her academic work in geophysics and planetary science and continuing in her role at FPA. Since joining the firm as a trainee attorney in 2014, Elyse has cultivated deep expertise across mining, space and aerospace, computer-implemented inventions and AI, and is dedicated to protecting her clients’ ideas and innovations, helping them bring their creations to the global stage. She works closely with inventors, startups, universities, and multinational companies to tailor IP strategies aligned with their business goals.

Elyse has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in key jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Asia and Europe, as well as complex portfolio management across these jurisdictions. Her track record includes securing successful outcomes in contentious patent and design matters.

Elyse’s mentoring within FPA has also been invaluable, shaping the next generation of attorneys.

Robbie’s career is built on a unique blend of engineering expertise and commercial insight stemming from his background in mechanical arts, physics, and commerce. This multidisciplinary perspective allows him to approach IP not just as a technical challenge but as a critical component of robust commercial strategies. His passion for technology and business has shaped a career focused on securing and leveraging IP to support innovation and growth.

With over nine years of experience at FPA, Robbie manages patent portfolios for a diverse client base, including local inventors, start-ups, universities, research institutes, and multinational corporations. His work spans drafting and prosecuting patents in jurisdictions such as Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Europe, and Asia. Robbie also provides strategic advice on freedom to operate, infringement issues, and supports litigation matters in the Federal Court.

Robbie’s particular expertise in MedTech has made him a valuable resource for start-ups, offering seminars on IP strategy and its role in successfully commercialising medical devices.
