About Robbie
Dedicated to helping organisations get the most out of their IP and achieve commercial outcomes.
Robbie specialises in the mechanical arts, and has extensive experience in the physics and computer implemented invention space.
Robbie’s interests in engineering, combined with his commerce background, led him down a career path in intellectual property, which allowed him to combine his technical and commercial interests and skills.
It is through this multidisciplinary lens that Robbie views IP – for him, understanding the nuances of technology is only half the battle. The ability to formulate a robust commercial strategy is just as critical.
Robbie manages patent portfolios for local inventors, start-ups and established companies, universities and research institutes, and large multinational companies through drafting patent specifications and prosecuting patent applications in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Europe and throughout Asia. Robbie also provides freedom to operate and infringement advice, as well as providing patent attorney support in litigation matters before the Federal Court.
Robbie also has a particularly keen interest in Medtech, having worked in this area for several years. He has provided multiple seminars to start-ups on the strategy and pitfalls associated with patent protection, and the nexus between IP protection and the commercialisation pathway for medical devices.
Prior to joining FPA, Robbie was a student at the University of Melbourne where he played a key role in designing and manufacturing a small Formula-style race car as part of the Formula SAE team.
