FPA Patent Attorneys is delighted to announce the promotion of Dr Danny Gelman to principal with effect from 1 March 2025.
“Danny’s outstanding leadership qualities and superior technical abilities, both as a patent attorney and chemist, are a perfect fit for his new role. His promotion will further enhance the reputation of our rapidly expanding chemistry and biotech group,” says FPA’s Managing Principal, John Dower.
Danny’s combined patent, pharmaceutical and academic experience gives him a deep understanding of an invention’s journey from conception to commercialisation. This allows him to identify valuable aspects of an invention and build investable patent portfolios to help his clients succeed.
Danny’s most celebrated achievements include:
- Developed an innovative patent filing strategy for an Australian VC-backed biopharmaceutical company which balanced technical developments against the company’s commercial priorities.
- Built and implemented a global patent filing strategy from start to finish for a private biopharmaceutical company. The strategy included invention scope development, balancing ongoing R&D pipeline development, developing a defensive publication strategy, and drafting and filing patent applications for implementation.
- Advised on all aspects of IP development, including patent portfolio management, global prosecution across multiple patent families, and new invention identification for a University spin-out biopharmaceutical company. The portfolio successfully passed BigPharma due diligence to enable partnering discussions.
- Developed a global patent filing strategy protecting a key chemical process for an ASX-listed mining & resources company.
- Advised on a series of freedom-to-operate assessments for potential investments as part of pre-investment due diligence for a Venture Capital (VC) fund.
Danny joined FPA Patent Attorneys as a Senior Associate in June 2019. He was later promoted to Associate Principal in July 2022.
